POLICE cells for “non-aggressive offenders” could be built in a Williton car park.

A new plan for Avon and Somerset police to move into West Somerset Council’s under-used headquarters is to be put to the authority’s cabinet at its meeting on Wednesday (September 8).

Cabinet members will be asked to sanction spending £140,00 on making the eight-year-old building into a shared customer-service hub in a bid to further cut costs and increase income.

The recommendations include:

* Relocating the county council’s branch library and registration offices to the ground floor reception area.

* Moving Williton police station into the ground, first and mezzanine floors.

* Converting members’ meetings rooms into offices for an unidentified private company.
