AFTER being turned down three times in five years, the fate of Williton businessman David Gliddon’s controversial £7 million supermarket scheme will finally be decided by a public inquiry scheduled to start on May 23.

The inquiry into West Somerset Council’s planning decisions by a Government inspector, opens at 10am in the Williton council chamber.

Members of the public can attend and, at the inspector’s discretion, express their views. Documents can be viewed at the council offices by prior arrangement.

Mr Gliddon has been fighting since 2012 to build the controversial development, which would include a supermarket half the size of Minehead’s Morrison’s

He is seeking to redevelop the site on land he owns behind his shops in Bank Street to include retail shops, professional and financial services, health services, residential dwellings, vehicle and pedestrian access, car parking and landscaping.
