OVER 150 new homes on a greenfield site in Watchet are being proposed, and leaflets and letters went out last week to residents and organisations in and around the town to canvass their views.

The proposals for the mixture of open market and affordable homes, as well as “extensive areas” of public open space, is on a 14 hectare site on land to the south of Doniford Road between Normandy Avenue and Cherry Tree Way.

Developers South West Strategic Developments (SWSD) are proposing under 50 per cent of the area is actually developed, and they are asking residents for their views as part of community consultation, before an outline planning application is submitted to West Somerset Council in the spring.

Around 320 leaflets about the proposed development were sent out to local residents last week, as well as letters to the town council, local businesses, and organisations and clubs in Watchet.

The developers said they had recently held pre-application discussions with West Somerset Council and were now seeking the wider community’s views before proposals were finalised.

People are being invited to comment on an online site, or write in to planning consultants Grass Roots Planning Ltd of Bristol, by Saturday (February 6).
