Minehead supporter of Children in Need Philippa Gerry has completed 100 ‘scoots’ around Blenheim Gardens in Minehead – and sent £3,060 to the charity.

Once Gift Aid has been added, the total will rise to £3,384.50 for the charity, which she chose because she has ‘always loved children’.

Philippa, 89, was inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore when she set herself a target of 100 laps of Blenheim Gardens on her mobility scooter.

“This has been a joyful thing to do, if scary to start with,” she said.

“I’ve had an eye-opening five months meeting interesting folk, locals, visitors from near and far – and an assertive seagull!

“Going to Blenheim Gardens from February to July was lovely – enjoyment without the backache!

She is grateful for people’s great generosity, and added: “Also a huge thank you to those who keep Blenheim Gardens looking so beautiful. Even in February, there were 23 different kinds of flower to be seen there.

“Thank you everyone – donors, supporters, the council for not minding, the selfless volunteer gardeners (they deserve to do well with Britain in Bloom) and the Free Press for welcome support. And the drinks van – lovely hot chocolate and not expensive. Many blessings to all.”
