A NEW way to find personalised care and support in West Somerset is available with the launch of a trusted micro providers network being managed by Porlock Vale Community Interest Company (CIC).

And anybody who wants to become a micro provider is being invited to attend drop-in sessions being held in Porlock and Minehead next week and the following week where they can meet community support lead Laura Bevens.

Micro providers are independent care and support professionals who offer personalised services to help people remain independent in their own homes.

Support can include companionship, help with shopping and appointments, meal preparation, domestic tasks, and personal care, as well as more specialised support, depending on an individual's needs.

Porlock Vale CIC has been recognised by Somerset Council as a ‘Trusted Local Network’, providing a local pathway which connects residents, families, and professionals with self-employed micro providers who meet agreed quality standards.

The launch comes at a time of significant change in adult social care.

As demand for personalised support continues to grow and funding for many traditional community services has reduced, the council has been exploring new ways to help people access care whch is flexible, local, and centred around individual needs.

Through the Government’s Accelerating Reform Fund, councils have been encouraged to develop community-led approaches, recognising that local organisations are often best placed to understand and respond to the needs of their communities.

The new network provides a trusted source of information for anybody considering micro provider services.

It enables residents, families, and health and social care professionals to make informed choices, while creating a simple route for referrals to local micro providers.

The initiative is also good news for existing and aspiring micro providers across West Somerset.

Porlock Vale CIC is inviting self-employed care and support professionals to join the network, where they will benefit from increased visibility, opportunities to receive referrals, ongoing guidance, networking opportunities, and access to training and development.

The aim is to build a strong, sustainable community of local providers who are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

The first drop-in session for existing and potential micro providers, or anybody who is looking for support at home, is on Tuesday, August 18, in Porlock Village Hall, from 6 pm to 8 pm.

A second event will be held on Thursday, August 27, from 9.15 am to 3 pm in the meeting hall of Minehead Methodist Church.

By bringing together local knowledge, trusted relationships, and community expertise, Micro Providers West Somerset Network aims to strengthen care and support across the area, giving residents greater choice while helping more people remain independent within their own communities.
