SOME 120 spotty driving school cars toured the Silverstone Circuit last Friday for the final leg of the Big Learner Relay in aid of Children in Need – and no-one there was more pleased than Watchet driving instructor Steve Page.
With the help of several local organisations’ own fundraising and donations from people in the town, he has raised over £1,850 for the cause.
“It’s been overwhelming, I had originally hoped to reach £250! People in Watchet have really dug deep,” he said.
Steve and his learner drivers have taken part in the sponsored relay, where a Children in Need Pudsey Bear top-box was relayed from one driving lesson to another, covering 3,000 miles across the country.
It ended on Friday with a lap of the famous racing circuit, in which the 120 driving school cars took part, complete with spots on the cars sponsored by local businesses and individuals for Children in Need.
“It was an amazing experience to drive around Silverstone,” said Steve.
“The coming together of so many people for such a good cause was a massive thrill. We were only doing 30 miles per hour, but it was where racing champions have been.”
