SIR — With reference to Mr Richards' letter (June 14) on taxis and volunteer drivers: I am a member of the PALS group and we assist elderly, disabled and disadvantaged people to stay mobile as long as possible. Many of our members cannot afford taxis.
We are fortunate enough to have our own transport to enable us to help our members at a low cost and we struggle continually to find volunteer drivers.
As a charity with over 100 members, we rely heavily on these drivers to take our members to and from the waterborne sessions we hold at St Audries.
Maybe Mr Richards ought to look at the taxi charges and remember that a lot of people in this area just cannot afford the luxury of a taxi.
