CHURCHES in Minehead and Alcombe are to throw a free ‘Love Minehead’ party for the community on Pentecost Sunday, June 4.

Pentecost is when Christians celebrate the birth of the Church and the coming of the Holy Spirit – a good reason to party!

The main event is to be in Blenheim Gardens where there will be bouncy castles and other inflatable fun, entertainment from the bandstand and celebration worship at 11am and 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, there will be a Pentecost Flower Festival in Minehead Methodist Church and a Pentecost Still Space Prayer Garden outside.

The day will begin with a Pentecost children’s parade from Minehead Methodist Church to the park. Children are encouraged to wear or carry symbols of the Holy Spirit, such as flames, doves, wind and water, leaving plenty of scope for the imagination.

Children should meet at The Avenue Methodist Church dressed in their creations by 10.15am ready to begin the parade at 10.30am.  In the event of rain, the whole event will transfer to Minehead Methodist Church.

All are invited to the free party – they can bring a picnic and stay all day if they wish.

Lynne Wooldridge, one of the organisers said: “Our aim in organising this party is to celebrate and have fun as we remember the event that brought the Christian Church into being 2,000 years ago and we very much want to share our celebration with everyone in our community.”
