A WILLITON pensioner has died three days after suffering serious head and leg injuries in a collision with a car in the village.

Edith Mary Pickett, who was known as Molly, was walking her dog in Long Street when the incident happened at about 5.20pm last Saturday.

The 89-year-old lived in Brook Road and the collision, involving a Vauxhall Corsa, happened near to its junction with Long Street.

Miss Pickett was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton but died just before 9pm on Tuesday.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and the main A39 road through the village was closed to traffic for almost four hours immediately after the collision to allow specialist officers to carry out a detailed examination of the scene.

Officers have appealed for witnesses and are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on 0845 4567000.

A post mortem was being carried out yesterday (Thursday) and an inquest into Miss Pickett's death was due to be opened by West Somerset coroner Michael Rose by the end of the week.

The hearing was set to be adjourned to a later date.
