A PENSIONER was airlifted to hospital as a precaution after being cut free from a vehicle following a collision in Priest Street, Williton, on Sunday afternoon.

Two cars travelling in opposite directions collided close to the village police station.

Both appliances from Williton fire station and one rescue tender from Taunton were sent to the scene at 2.15pm.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said several people had been in each of the vehicles and most were able to walk away.

However, it was decided to remove a pillar from one of the cars to enable crews to rescue an elderly female rear-seat passenger.
