RUNNERS from Hinkley Point were out in force for the nuclear power stations’ annual charity fun run.
Some 50 people took part in either a ten or five kilometre run, following a new route around the Steart Marshes nature reserve near Combwich.
Many completed the courses in fancy dress and, so far, their combined efforts have raised more than £800.
The money will be shared between EDF Energy’s charity partner Breast Cancer Now and the Wildlife and Wetland Trust which owns Steart Marshes.
Last year’s fun run winner Artur Osicki, from Hinkley Point C’s contract partner, BYLOR, again took top honours.
Tanya Richer was the first female runner home and Jan Chowen the fastest runner over 50.
The fastest walkers were Michael Mann and David Taylor, while the prize for the best fancy dress went to Kevin Ho.
Rob Jordan, Hinkley Point C site construction director, who presented the trophies, said: “Being from Australia, the concept of a fun run was pretty new to me.
“However, everyone really enjoyed taking part and doing their bit for charity and it was a great opportunity to get everyone together to do something a bit different.”
The run has been a regular feature since the 1970s and has raised thousands in the name of former Hinkley Point B employee George Hudson, who founded the event.
After the run, team members celebrated with a barbecue in Combwich’s Anchor Inn.
