Letter to the West Somerset Free Press

As the town is now opening up to visitors once more I wonder if this is a good moment to revive the plans for a Bandstand on the Esplanade at Watchet.

Plans were drawn up some years ago, and I believe that funding was then available, but the scheme was dismissed when there was some dissent about the exact site of the bandstand. This is unfortunate for the town as currently the two bands based here play on the esplanade regularly throughout the summer whatever the weather; the esplanade also promotes live music performances during markets and at other events during the year, and a static sheltered bandstand would be an enormous asset, and could also look very attractive if sympathetically designed.

The East Quay development has been created since the bandstand plans were dropped, and the entire Esplanade area now has a changed look and atmosphere, so it could be appropriate to reconsider the idea and the positioning at this point.

This might even be a popular and uncontroversial plan for Watchet.
