I totally agree with Julia Worth’s remarks about the stag’s head at Minehead Middle School (letters February 17th). It has been sadly neglected for years ever since the management changed.
I was site manager at Minehead Middle School and was the instigator together with head Paul Rushforth for the carving; making use of the stump of a cedar that had to be felled.
You would think that an institute of education would show more respect for the workmanship and skill of a master craftsman. It is no example to set to the students.

Surely a school should celebrate and take pride in the skills of our own local artists? Just two coats of cedar oil once or twice a year is all it needs.
