THE first Watchet open gardens event was held across last weekend (June 27 and 28) with 10 gardens for people to view, alongside the town’s scarecrow competition.
There were visitors who came from various other areas of the country and many said they really enjoyed touring the gardens, which cost £5 for all of them.
Event organiser Lori Lee said it had been an excellent first attempt for the town, with three venues laying on cream teas, which helped to raise just under £1,500.
The profits will be shared between the West Somerset Homelessness project via Watchet Salvation Army, and Watchet Garden and Flower Show.
Prizewinners will be announced at the garden and flower show, which is being held on Watchet’s war memorial recreation ground on July 19.
