WORLD champion swimmer Karen Legg took the plunge when a Williton school found itself up the creek.

Danesfield Middle School had invited celebrity Darren Campbell as the guest at this year's Superschools fundraising day.

But sprinter Darren, was unable to make it - so Karen stepped in.

Gold medallist Karen told pupils that, as an 11-year-old, she could not swim a length of her local pool and that she, too, was a participant in a Superschools event.

She explained how hard work, determination and commitment brought her up to world class standard and she enthralled the youngsters when answering their questions about her swimming career, training schedules and her medals.

These include her World Championship gold medal for the four times 200 metres freestyle relay - which she is pictured wearing.
