CHILDREN at Minehead First School had an early taste of Olympic fever when they held their own version of a grand games opening ceremony to mark London 2012.
The ceremony was part of a series of Olympic-themed activities which saw the children selected to represent different continents, depending on their school house.
They then made flags, designed medals and even torches for the opening ceremony.
The ceremony itself took place in the school hall, which was transformed into an Olympic stadium for the day.
Real-life Olympic torchbearer Josh Lee of Minehead was the guest of honour and helped to launch what looks set to be a term filled with sports and Olympic-related events, culminating with an official end of term closing ceremony.
Pictured with Josh are Rhianna Cunningham, Guy Milton-Jenkins, Julius Barnby-King, Hannah Turner, Sophie Woods, Gregory Horrobin, Carla Scott, Jasmine Stevens, Willow Usher and Ellie Lewin.
l Pupils from the Exmoor Federation of Schools also held an Olympic celebration last Friday - see picture on Page 3.
