MINEHEAD’s weekly farmers’ market was on the move last Friday after roadworks in Irnham Road prevented stall-holders setting up shop in their usual site on the Parade.

Instead, the market moved to a temporary home on the forecourt of the Old Hospital in the Avenue at the invitation of Minehead Connect, which is developing the building as a community hub.

A Connect spokesperson said: “The hospital forecourt was absolutely buzzing.

As we have come to expect, the market was operated in a safe covid manner with ample hand sanitisers and social distancing measures in place, giving a healthy shopping experience.

“Comments and feedback from the local community were great, with shoppers enjoying things being a little bit different from the norm.”

The spokesperson added: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with, and support, the farmers’ market.

“While Minehead Connect is working this summer to develop more general Friday and Saturday markets on the forecourt, we are especially keen to collaborate with the farmers’ market and so bring the best offerings to the town.”
