SIR — Great news for Minehead in your last week's paper.

Graphics to smarten up empty shops in the Parade - great idea! A proper town centre manager - wonderful! A new tourism app - fabulous!

Couple that with the promise of the bike path and things are really looking up.

But there are still more opportunities to improve Minehead's retail heart.

I have been overwhelmed by support for my suggestion that taxi ranks be re-located to the seafront outside the Queen's Hall or the station where they would be much more convenient for everyone. Clearly they have outlived their usefulness in the town centre.

The Olympics have shown just what can be done with imagination and positiveness.

Just imagine what 25 per cent more convenient retail parking, greater safety (no standing in the road or dangerous u-turns) and reduced pollution and congestion could do for Minehead.

And perhaps if technologies like Hailo - the taxi-calling smartphone app - were introduced, we would all win.

What's stopping us? Let's start making Minehead a better place and let's start doing it now!
