SIR — I would like to thank Martin Spink for his contribution to 'A Word in Edgeways' (Free Press April 30).

Having read it several times, I would like to thank him for the challenge about building up a culture of care and compassion for those around us.

This is not always easy but I have noticed that when I have put it into practice, it never fails to have some positive result.
