As previously reported, volunteering charity Engage has launched its annual search for outstanding individuals and organisations in West Somerset and Taunton Deane - and there’s still time to nominate people.

It wants voluntary organisations and the general public to nominate individuals or groups who they feel deserve special recognition.

Katrina Midgley, Engage chief officer, said: “The volunteers will be people who give their time freely for the benefit of others, whether in a large registered charity or simply through being good neighbours.”

This year, while the categories will reflect the two areas, there will be a single awards ceremony at Halsway Manor, near Crowcombe, in June after a panel of judges has considered all of the nominations.

There are two main categories for the Volunteer of the Year awards – individual and group.

In West Somerset, there is an additional environmental award, which has again been sponsored by Exmoor National Park Authority.
