A DEVELOPMENT of nine homes on land in Station Road, Washford, was approved by Somerset West and Taunton planners at a virtual meeting last Wednesday, despite concerns about the speed of traffic on the nearby A39 main road.

A report from Old Cleeve parish council said that while the proposals offered the potential to provide a housing scheme of good quality, a recommendation for approval could not be made unless a controlled crossing was provided on the A39 and other issues, such as flooding, addressed.
Ten letters of objection included traffic impact and a negative effect on the character of the village.
The committee approved the application with nine members in favour, two against and two abstentions.
