A LONG-awaited new library will finally open its doors in Wiveliscombe today (Friday).

Based at 9 The Square, the new £66,300 facility will be more accessible and brighter than its predecessor and open for an extra day a week.

The selection of books has been refreshed and also includes DVDs and talking books.

There is also internet access, with library members able to have 30 minutes of free internet access every day, plus a further 60 minutes of access to a range of free websites.

Tom Mayberry, group manager for Somerset County Council's heritage and libraries, said: "We are delighted to be opening the library and to be offering an improved service to the people of Wiveliscombe.

"We want the new library to be an important and attractive space for the whole community."

The new library will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings.
