MORE than 5,000 people were estimated to have turned out for the new Minehead Christmas Festival last Friday and Saturday.

Organisers Gateway Events, formed in the wake of last year’s lacklustre effort, were delighted with the success of their first effort.

And town Mayor Cllr Norman Hercock said it was “an absolute triumph”.
