CROWCOMBE Court has been sold to the owner of a weddings and private events venue in Sussex.
Now a well established private hire venue, Crowcombe Court was built as a statement of wealth and a house in which to entertain by Thomas Carew. It was completed in 1739 to a design by Nathaniel Ireson, who also built Stourhead and Venn House.
The Grade I listed early Georgian house is set within ten acres of parkland and landscaped gardens. It retains most of its important historic features, including plasterwork, chimney pieces and two original staircases.
Crowcombe Court was bought by in 2011 by David and Kate Kenyon who restored it to its former grandeur and created and developed a business specialising in wedding and events on an exclusive use basis.
They decided to sell Crowcombe Court in order to pursue a new business venture.
The new owner, Stuart Guy, plans to build on the current levels of trade and further developing the business: “We are really happy to add this stunning venue to our portfolio of wedding venues,” he said.“It truly is a gem!”
The sale was handled by Stephen Champion, associate director at Christie & Co: “The business unsurprisingly received significant interest from a range of business and residential buyers when launched to the market, receiving multiple offers.
“We have no doubt Stuart Guy’s significant experience in the sector will enable him to take this stunning wedding venue from strength to strength,” he said.
