ALTHOUGH entries were down in a number of sections at Timberscombe Show, the quality of exhibits was high and everyone enjoyed themselves.
A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of a new cup - the Joyce and Eddie Smith Cup - to the exhibitor with the most points in all sections.
It has been named in appreciation of two stalwarts in the show’s history.
Joyce set up the show 34 years ago and organised it singlehandedly for 21 years, and since then she has always been involved by stewarding and also exhibiting in various sections.
Eddie showed his vegetables and fruit every year over that time until ill health prevented it two years ago.
It was fitting that the cup was presented by Joyce herself, to Gabrielle Horrobin.
Best in show went to David Cook with Mrs Lorna Hay taking the runner-up cup and also winning the ‘people’s choice’ prize.
Thanks went to judges John Keal, Mrs Wendy Phippen, Mrs Wendy Schofield, Mrs Myra Barrett and Mike Read, and to Dave Rich for persuading everyone to part with their money in the auction of produce.
