THE Thomas Poole Library, in Nether Stowey, is among 11 Somerset charitable organisations nominated this year for the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The award scheme was created in 2002 to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee and shine a light on the excellent work of voluntary groups across the UK.

A decision on which groups will receive the award will not be known until the King’s Birthday on November 14.

But a library spokesperson said the nomination was ‘an accolade and recognition of the thousands of hours contributed each year by our wonderful library volunteers, both in front of and behind the scenes’.

Lynn Scales and Norma Frood recently represented the Nether Stowey library at a reception at the Royal Bath and West Show.
