A SERIES of walks on Exmoor has been launched which are suitable for people with mobility issues or pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Exmoor Strolls covers 15 routes in 12 locations across Exmoor National Park designed to provide gentle walks through the countryside.

They feature new step and stile-free strolls aiming to make the iconic Exmoor landscape more accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities.

The strolls range from a third of a mile to 2.5 miles and are graded using the ‘Miles without Stiles’ classifications as suitable for ‘all’, ‘many’, or ‘some’, with many suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

National park rural enterprise manager Dan James said: “We are delighted to introduce Exmoor Strolls, as part of our ongoing commitment to make the national park more accessible to all.

“These routes provide an excellent opportunity for people of all abilities to connect with nature, immerse themselves in our landscapes, and experience the wonders of Exmoor first-hand.”

Exmoor Strolls completes the park authority’s range of Exmoor ‘top walks’, which also includes Exmoor Explorers and Exmoor Classics.

Mr James said: “Having worked hard over the last few years we are delighted to have completed our top walks with the strolls, explorers, and classics, all focused on the special qualities of the national park and encouraging everybody to get outside and experience this beautiful landscape.

“Whether you are an avid hiker or a leisurely stroller, Exmoor’s top walks offer something for everybody.”

The national park authority has teamed up with mapping leaders Ordnance Survey, which this week is celebrating National Map reading week and has published all of Exmoor’s top walks as ‘recommended routes’ on the digital OS Maps platform.

It means some of Exmoor’s best walks are freely available to five million OS Maps digital users, while subscribers can unlock further benefits, including detailed leisure mapping, national parks snap-to-path and aerial fly-throughs.

OS leisure managing director Nick Giles said: “We are thrilled to be supporting Exmoor National Park with the launch of their new short strolls collection, to help even more people to get outside more often and experience the wonderful countryside first hand.

“Exmoor is blessed with some of the most rugged coastlines and beautiful open moorland just waiting to be explored, so making this accessible to everybody is crucial in our mission to inspire a healthier and more active nation.”

The collection of walks is available in a booklet from Exmoor National Park Centres and the Exmoor National Park online shop.

Further details and free route downloads plus links to Ordnance Survey digital mapping and helpful video guides are also available online at www.exmoorwalks.org/strolls.

The strolls have been developed with additional funding support through Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs Access for All National Parks initiative.
