AUTUMN fungi discovered in woods between Crowcombe and Stogumber have baffled former professional photographer Barry Finch.
Barry, of Crowcombe, searched for the fungi after being told about them, and photographed seven specimens when he found them clustering around a tree.
“I’ve lived in the country all my life but have never seen anything like this before – the biggest one must have been at least three foot across,” he said.
“I don’t even know if they’re edible, but they would make a good meal if they were!”
He said he did not know what kind of fungi they were.
But local people who have spotted the variety in the past said they were exceptionally large this year.
