WEST Somerset Inter Cultural Friendship Group will hold a 12-hour music marathon on Saturday (July 1) in aid of Oxfam’s East Africa food crisis appeal.
The line-up includes local folk, jazz and blues musicians plus the Watchet Community Choir but there are still some time-slots available.
The event at The West Somerset Hotel in Watchet is free and runs from midday to midnight with time set aside for children’s music and poetry at 3pm.
Because of droughts in Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Somalia famine has been declared and the event, to be held at The West Somerset Hotel in Watchet, aims to raise money to save lives.
More than 19 million people are facing food shortages, and war in South Sudan has driven more than three million people from their homes.
Inter-cultural friendship group chairman Pete Stevenson said: “I have been assured that 95 per cent of all money raised will go directly to the stricken regions.
“The remaining five per cent is to be spent on transporting the food, fresh water and medical equipment and promoting the cause in other areas of the country.”
Any musician who would like to contribute should contact Pete on 07896 867 799.
