WOOTON Courtenay Village Hall is to host a ‘Music & Magic’ charity night

starring “The Rockin’ Rev” and magician Peterjon on Friday (March 22).

It has been organised by the Exmoor support group of The Brooke, which works to improve the lives of vulnerable working horses, donkeys and mules, and the communities that depend on them in the Third World and war-torn countries.

The Rockin’ Rev”, deacon David Croucher, will be providing a mix of music from a number of his ‘Burns’ guitars collection and includes music from ’60s and ’70s.

He has been playing the guitar for 55 years and was inspired by Bert Weedon and Hank Marvin and The Shadows. Various electric and acoustic guitars have been owned over the years but a meeting with ex-Shadows bassist Jet Harris re-kindled his love of their ‘signature’ Fender and Burns branded guitars.

Pete Rawlinson, aka Peterjon, has been interested in magic since he was eight, and has both performed and lectured magic to many organisations including the Magic  Circle.

Now retired, he only does a few charity shows a year. His tricks will  include a flying violin, a talking rabbit, burning money and some mind reading!

“It’s going to be a really fun and entertaining evening,” said event co-organiser and Brooke supporter Alison Mills.

“The money raised helps Brooke provide such things as training a farrier to combat lameness and protect animals from needless pain, run animal welfare workshops in villages and provide water stations.”

Advance tickets cost £12.50, which includes a full buffet, and can be obtained from The Apple Tree Tea Rooms, The Avenue, Minehead, and Wootton Courtenay Village Shop or phone Alison on 07786 120499.
