VILLAGERS in Timberscombe are being invited to their parish church on Monday afternoon (December 1) to celebrate the start of Advent, the precursor to Christmas.

Mulled wine and festive nibbles will be on offer from 4.30 pm in St Petrock’s Church followed at 5 pm by a programme of music, poetry readings, humour, and reflection.

The occasion will include a performance by singers from neighbouring Wootton Courtenay.

A spokesperson said: “You are very welcome to come and join what is a very jolly event.

“Come and see the church dressed for the season, and do not miss our amazing Christmas tree.

“We are very grateful to Tony and Chanelle Singleton, from Willow Stream Christmas Trees, Timberscombe, for donating such an impressive tree for everybody to enjoy.”

The event is free to attend, and a retiring collection and any donations will go to help meet the costs of keeping the church open.
