Motorcyclists from as far afield as Germany took part in the 34th annual Coast to Coast ride ending up in Minehead.

Westlands Classic Motorcycle Club organised the event which began at 10am in Lyme Regis, with riders sent on their way by the town crier and the local mayor. Then, after making their way through Dorset, East Devon, and Somerset, the motorcyclists went via Honiton and Sidford where they and their families enjoyed a barbecue at Sheppy’s Cider Farm in Taunton for a well-earned break.

For the last lap they headed through West Somerset before finishing at the Esplanade in Minehead where the mayor, Councillor Andy Kingston-James, presented awards to the riders.

There were 128 riders in total who completed the 84 miles route. Henry Pinney, the vice chairman of Westlands Classic Motorcycle Club, said: It was a lovely day for everyone.”

Henry rode a 1934 motorcycle and won an award for a ‘combination of being the oldest rider with the oldest motorbike’.

He added: “The people that travelled the furthest were a group of German riders.”

Despite Covid forcing the group to cancel the last two years, the day was a great success, with help from 49 volunteer marshals to make sure everyone was safe.

All the proceeds from the event went to Headway, a charity dedicated to improving life after brain injuries.
