WEST Somerset Morris presented cheques to three local charities at their weekly practice venue in St Audries Village Hall on Thursday (January 30).

Hope For Tomorrow received £500, WHEELS was given £250 and the same amount went to Minehead Car Scheme.

The donations are the result of money collected over the last year when the morris side danced in local villages, towns and fetes.

Maria Ford, representing Hope For Tomorrow, said the donation will support the Bumble Bus. The Mobile Chemotherapy Unit (MCU) brings cancer treatment to patients across a wide area, treatments which would normally only be offered at Musgrove Hospital.

Living in a rural county, Somerset patients would often have arduous journeys before their treatment started, the Bumble Bus alleviates this.

WHEELS in Watchet and Williton was represented by John Carslake, and the cheque for Minehead Car Scheme was handed to Brian Worrall.

Both schemes are operated by volunteer drivers, in their own vehicles. They are designed to help people who have difficulty using public transport or who must travel to or from locations when there is no public transport available.

WHEELS covers Watchet, Williton and Old Cleeve while Minehead Car Scheme covers Minehead, Alcombe, Dunster, Timberscombe and Carhampton.
