BRIGHT sunshine greeted the 290 runners in Sunday's 24th Beacon to Beach Fun Run, the annual fundraising event for West Somerset Community College.

A record 45 teams of four runners entered this year, and with the emphasis on the fun side of running, it was good to see the suppoort from parents, friends and team-mates as they urged the runners on at the changeover points and at the finish at the college.

As usual there were some fine performances throughout the field, but the most remarkable was by winner Andrew Baker, who finished more than three minutes in front of second-placed Graham Collins.

There are still a few of the specially produced commemorative T-shirts, a feature of the event and once again sponosred by the Hairy Dog, available from Sue Taphouse on 01643 821232.

The event was organised by the Community College Support Group and the money raised will be used to enhance education at the college.
