FIREFIGHTERS from three stations were mobilised to deal with an agricultural blaze at the foot of the Quantock Hills on Thursday night (September 17).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (DSFR) received multiple calls at about 10 pm to say a detached agricultural building was on fire near Bicknoller.

A control officer initially despatched two fire crews from Williton to attend the incident who on arrival called for an additional fire appliance to help with water and personnel.

Crews from Minehead and Nether Stowey were then sent to help tackle the blaze but were unable to prevent the building from being destroyed.

The crews used four sets of breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, two 51 mm attack jets, and a covering jet, as well as small tools, two positive pressure ventilation fans, and a ground monitor, and checked for hot spots with a thermal imaging camera.

A DSFR spokesperson said a fire crew returned later to monitor hot spots and damp down the scene.

The spokesperson said the cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
