The Friends took up the mantle of providing festivities in the town after organisers of the Community Christmas Extravaganza cancelled their plans, due to ill health and a lack of funds.
Also, the town council said it was not planning its Christmas Community Festival as it had expected the extravaganza to go ahead and there was no point in holding two similar events. The previous year, both celebrations took place.
The Friends, who normally hold a school Christmas fair every year, decided to provide a bigger event for the town and now their plans are coming together, with support from local businesses and organisations.
With attractions from an ice rink and live reindeer plus a ‘Santa Snow Dog’ to carols and choirs, stalls and a Santa’s grotto, the event on December 10 is taking shape.
