THe Minehead Triathlon is back after a five-year break and will be held this year on Sunday July 17 at Aquasplash. The event is being organised by West Somerset District Council in association with local race organisers from the Taunton Deane Triathlon. Tony Pryce Sports and TRI UK Inc are sponsoring the event but more are needed - anyone interested should contact Matt Stevens on 01643 708000. There is a prize fund of £400 and a prize for the first West Somerset residents, male and female. The sprint distance event has male and female categories in five age groups - junior (16 -20), senior (21-39), veteran (40 -49), super veteran (50-plus) and vintage veteran (60-plus). All competitors will swim 400 metres in the Aquasplash pool, cycle 23 kilometres from Aquasplash to Porlock and back, and run 7.5 kilometres from Aquasplash to Dunster beach and back to finish opposite the pool. The transition areas will be in the Aquasplash car park and all routes will be clearly marked and marshalled with drink stations at appropriate intervals. There are 250 places and 80 entries have already been received. The closing date for entries is Monday June 13. For more information and an entry form, contact Matt Stevens at Aquasplash on 01643 708000 or [email protected]">[email protected] for an electronic copy.
