THE British Red Cross mobility aids service in Townsend Road, Minehead, will close at the end of May.
It has been run by a group of volunteers who have been with the organisation for many years but the tenancy is due to end.
The Red Cross has been in Minehead for around 60 years and will not be leaving the town altogether – it has a charity shop in The Avenue.
Mobility aids will still be available at the Red Cross centres in Taunton and Bridgwater and can also be delivered to people’s homes.
Patricia Edwards, senior service manager for the Red Cross in Somerset, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our team of mobility aids volunteers, who have given fantastic service over the years and are being supported through this change.
“The Red Cross has had a presence in Townsend Road since the 1950s so it is a big change for volunteers and members of the public alike.
“We would like to reassure people that we will still be very active in the town … our Red Cross shop raises vital funds for our range of services supporting people in crisis.”
People needing short-term loans of mobility aids beyond the end of May should call 01823 273746 to contact the Red Cross in Livingstone Way, Taunton, TA26BD.
Mobility aids can be collected from the Red Cross offices in Taunton or Bridgwater and arrangements can also be made to deliver items.
