SIX local organisations and causes each received £500 at Minehead and District Lions Club’s annual presentation evening.

Money raised through various events throughout the year was presented by Lions president Peter Kuruber at the North Road Social Club.

Cheques were presented to Carhampton Youth Club, Williton Youth Club, Reminiscence Learning’s Archie Project, WASPS (Williton and Surrounds Parkinson’s Support), Re-think, which promotes mental health awareness, and Hope for Tomorrow’s mobile chemotherapy unit Bumble Bus.

Also, for their work in the community, three people were awarded a Centenary Certificate of Appreciation signed by Lions patron Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and a cheque for £200 for their chosen charities.

Recipients were Lewis Lintern, who chose the Regal Theatre roof fund, Meighan Lyons and Act4Africa, and Christine Payne supporting Contact the Elderly Tea Parties.

A certificate and cheque for the late Hilary May, and a crystal trophy and cheque for £500, were presented to Helen May and Bev Trimmings of Hope for Tomorrow, respectively at the Lions April meeting.
