MINEHEAD Football Club has won £5,000 worth of materials and labour towards its new changing rooms and community hub.
The club appealed for people to support it in the Jewson Building Better Communities competition (Free Press June 2) and now it has been named as a regional winner.
The club’s current changing rooms and social areas are over 50 years old and several sections are closed off for health and safety reasons.
The support from Jewson will be used to help repair the building and enable the club to become a hub for community groups to use.
Project leader Colin Johnson said: “We are delighted to receive the £5,000 regional award from Jewson Building Better Communities.
“The funding will help us work with our partners to create a brand new building which the club and the local community will be proud of.”
Minehead FC was invited to join 25 other winners at an awards ceremony at the University of Nottingham where architect George Clarke presented the prizes.
Ryan Jordan, branch manager at Jewson Minehead, said: “Massive congratulations to Minehead FC. We received a record number of entries this year so this really is a huge achievement.”
