TWO West Somerset fire crews were called out to a ‘Friday the 13th’ blaze when the chimney of a village home caught alight.

Firefighters from Nether Stowey were the first to be mobilised to the incident in Bicknoller, which happened shortly before 12.30 pm.

Shortly after their arrival, the crew requested the attendance of a second fire engine, which Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (DSFR) despatched from Minehead.

The chimney was found to be well alight with a wooden beam measuring about 10 feet in length within a hearth which measured about 13 feet by 10 feet.

A DSFR spokesperson said: “Crews successfully extinguished the fire using chimney gear and a hose reel jet.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”
