WET and humid conditions greeted Miles Pearce when he reached the half-way mark in the London to Sydney 2000 Rally on Tuesday.
Miles, from St Audries Garage, West Quantoxhead, is being sponsored in the marathon event to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Relief Somerset appeal.
He set off on June 1 in his 1966 Ford Cortina GT for the 11,000 mile journey through 17 countries and reached Nakhon, in Thailand, on Tuesday.
There were 100 competitors at the start but the number has already dwindled to 89 and Miles, with navigator Jon Roebuck, is currently in 49th place.
Miles said the weather in Turkey was extremely hot at 46 degrees centigrade and dust reduced visibility to a few metres.
In Thailand this week, he was experiencing torrential rain, very slippery roads and slightly lower temperatures but over 96 per cent humidity.
The competitors should reach Singapore today (Friday) and the Australian leg begins in Darwin on Sunday. They are planning to reach Sydney on July 4.
