The Met Office has today issued a fresh Yellow Weather warning for snow and ice across most of the South West and parts of Wales.

The warning is set to commence at 6pm on Tuesday and lasts until 12pm on Wednesday.

The Met Office warned: “Snow showers and icy stretches may cause some disruption.”

A statement said: “Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

"Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces. Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.”

A second Yellow Warning for snow and Ice is set to commence on Wednesday at 6pm, according to Met Office guidance last updated on Tuesday. As with today’s warning it is set to expire at 12noon.

The Met Office forecasts the temperature will drop to 1 degree C by 6pm on Tuesday. Temperatures will fall to zero from 8pm before falling to an overnight low of minus 1 C by 1am.

By Wednesday lunchtime the temperature will rise to 4C, and there will be sunny spells. Overnight temperatures will reach a low of 1 C, with freezing temperatures to follow between 6am and 9am.

The latest warning follows a Yellow Warning for ice covering Somerset overnight into Tuesday. Avon and Somerset Police reported there had been more than 100 road incidents, including a double-decker bus which overturned near Cannington carrying workers to Hinkley Point C.

The force said: “We are advising the public to only travel if essential after the police received more than 100 reports of road-related incidents in five hours.”
