WATCHET Live has announced three iconic British acts for its festival in August – including former Spice Girl Melanie C.

The other two are Hazel O’Connor and Cast - and many more acts, including three headliners, are still to be announced for the event taking place from August 24 to 26.

Mel C is one of the most successful British recording artists of all time and remains the only female performer to top the UK charts as a solo artist and part of a duo, quartet and quintet.

As a solo artist she has released seven albums, notching up over ten million album sales worldwide, alongside two UK number one singles and six top tens.

Her debut album Northern Star sold four million copies worldwide and went triple platinum in the UK.

Including her work with the Spice Girls, whose first single Wannabe reached number one in 37 countries, she has sold over 105 million records and co-written 11 UK number ones, more than any other female artist in chart history.

Hazel O’Connor, renowned singer-songwriter and actress with a career spanning over 30 years, will headline the Udder stage at the festival on the Saturday.

She became famous in the 1980s with hit singles Eighth Day, D-Days and Will You, and has gone on to record over 20 studio albums and appeared regularly on stage and screen.

Cast, known as a Britpop legend, reached fame during the 1990s then reformed in 2010, since when they have released two studio albums and toured extensively in the UK and abroad.

The group’s debut album All Change in 1995 shot to number seven in the UK charts and reached double platinum, while their second, Mother Nature Calls, went platinum and stayed in the Top 40 for over six months.

More than 80 per cent of weekend camping tickets have sold and the festival is set to continue its tradition of completely selling out in advance.

Watchet Live CIC, the charity behind the festival, will again make donations to local charity groups including the Children’s Hospice South West, Elliot’s Touch, and Stand Against Speed 4 Bethany.

It received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2017, the highest award given to volunteer groups in the UK.
