Yeovil Mayor Bridget Dollard and her consort recently visited the town's sea cadets at their Yeovilton headquarters.

After meeting the chairman, the commanding officer and other guests they were greeted by a full guard of honour, which the Mayor was invited to inspect.

Councillor Dollard then went on to inspect and talk to the rest of the ship's company before enjoying the grand tour under the guidance of Sub Lieutenant (SCC) Simon Vokes RNR Commanding Officer.

The tour involved seeing the cadets under instruction, and the Mayor then proceeded to present badges and awards during Evening Colours. The evening was finished off with a buffet in the wardroom.

Commanding officer Vokes repaid the visit by turning up at Yeovil Town Council last week to present a plaque commemorating the Mayor's visit to the cadets.

Anyone interested in the cadets can obtain more information by calling chairman Ian Martin on 01935 426367 or the commanding officer on 01935 455711 on Tuesday and Friday evenings between 7pm and 9pm.

The unit is currently seeking an adult female instructor. Ideally, candidates should have RYA or administrative qualifications, and be willing to give up their spare time to work with youngsters.

Potential candidates should be prepared to be subject to strict vetting procedures before they are cleared for acceptance.
