SIR — Whilst crossing the recreation ground in Williton last Thursday on my way to the shops, I was suddenly confronted by two running, unaccompanied rottweilers, one of which decided to jump up me.
The owner had clearly released the dogs on entering the rec and the dogs bounded into the open area well ahead of any supervision.
As it happens, I am confident with dogs, but what if it had been someone with a lifelong fear of dogs or, worse, a terrified child?
It is surely time that dog lovers realised that there are many people who are so afraid of loose dogs that they choose to use the road route to the village rather than risk this kind of confrontation on their recreation ground.
