OVER 250 past and present players and supporters aged from 16 to 90 celebrated the 70th anniversary of Alcombe Rovers football club with a gala evening at Minehead Rugby Club on Saturday.
Guests engaged in a question-and-answer session with David May, midfielder in the Manchester United treble-winning team.
Signed celebrity shirts were auctioned or raffled for club funds. They included Rio Ferdinand’s number seven Manchester United shirt, Ronaldo’s (Real Madrid), and a Portugal shirt signed by the 2016 European Cup winners, donated by landlord Ken Cox of the Britannia Inn.
“Everyone was there because of their love of the club,” said one of the organisers, Dan James.
“There was an exhibition of old team photographs, which sparked off so many memories.
“We appreciated that David came specially to Alcombe on his birthday, so we made him a cake and sang ‘Happy Birthday!’.”
