A MAN in his 20s has been arrested in connection with an allegation of a serious sexual assault in Minehead at the weekend.
Police had earlier released a CCTV image in an appeal to trace a man to whom they they wanted to speak after a report that a woman was the victim of a serious sexual assault near the Duke of Wellington public house in the early hours of Sunday.
The man, who has not been identified, was being held in police custody.
DI Claire Millington had described the alleged assault as 'a horrific incident' and praised the woman for showing 'incredible strength and bravery' in reporting it.
She said the woman was being given all the support she needed.
Police said the public in Minehead should be reassured that it was believed to be an isolated incident.
