TUCKING into a simple lunch has helped bring in the pennies for a West Somerset charity that helps local people struggling to put food on the table.

A series of weekly Lent lunches organised by Christians Together in Minehead raised a total of £1,035 for the West Somerset Food Cupboard.

And at the group's June meeting, the Rev Andrew Vidamour presented a cheque to the charity's representative Keith Garner.

"We know that all the donations given to the Food Cupboard go directly to the purchase of food," said Mr Vidamour.

"So we have agreed that this money, which represents the proceeds of our popular weekly lunches during Lent, should be used to cover some of the more mundane practical costs of administrating the work.

"This will help the wonderful voluntary staff with the efficient distribution of food to those in need."

Mr Garner said the food cupboard was always very grateful for all the offers of food and money it continued to receive from the generous people of West Somerset.
