A generous National Lottery grant has secured the future of a Yeovil playgroup.

It has been confirmed that £82,000 of Lottery money will be used to finance the erection of a temporary building at Parcroft Playgroup, Summerleaze Park, Yeovil.

Community Fund released a press statement last week saying: "The project will replace the present building with a larger, though temporary, alternative which will enable the group to increase the number of places available for the local community.

"The grant, over one year, will meet the cost of a temporary modular building."

Helen Parker of Parcroft Playgroup said: "The news has made my day and it means we won't have to close."

The current building is coming down and there could have been a serious problem if the grant application had been unsuccessful.

It is hoped the new building will be up by the middle of next year, enabling the group to increase its morning registration from 20 to 26 children.

Yeovil MP David Laws praised the group's work, saying: "I am delighted to see that Parcroft School has been awarded £82,000.

"I know how valuable the child care group at Parcroft is to the local community and how playgroup spaces are in such demand.

"I congratulate those at Parcroft Playgroup who put together the bid for this Lottery money. Their hard work has now paid off and I am looking forward to seeing the new building."
